Palmer-Buckle decries same sex marriage

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has decried homosexuality, lesbianism and the legalization of same sex marriages in some Christian communities in the world.

His remarks followed the recent ruling by the U.S Supreme Court that allowed for same-sex marriages in all States of America, lamenting that even Ireland, a Catholic dominated nation, had also legalized same sex marriages, calling on Christians to stand against such practices.

Archbishop Palmer-Buckle said this at a Mass to climax the 90th Anniversary of the St. Peter’s Church at Osu in Accra on the theme: How Great is Your Name O Lord My God. The Prelate said it was sacrilege for a man to marry his fellow man and vice versa all in the name of human rights, saying that it should not be condoned by any Christian community. He also kicked against the many ills in society such as corruption, thievery and other acts that militated against the development of the nation and called for attitudinal change among Ghanaians.

He said it was time Ghanaians learnt to live within their means and stopped seeking luxurious lives which could only lead to thievery and corruption. He bemoaned the situation where Ghanaians mismanaged state resources, littered the environment indiscriminately, and pointed accusing fingers at Government Officials for the unclean environment.

Citing as examples the malpractice in the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination which led to the cancellation of five papers and the June 3 flooding in Accra which was largely attributed to drains choked with garbage, the Prelate asked Ghanaians to measure their implication on the nation and turn a new leaf for a better nation. Speaking on the Feast of Ss. Peter and Paul, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle urged the faithful to emulate the unwavering faith of St. Peter and the evangelization zeal of St. Paul, the two Apostles on whom Jesus founded His Church, to grow the Church.

He commended the Osu Parishioners for embarking on evangelization in the Ga fishing communities, encouraging them to help to develop their Church spiritually, materially and financially.

At the Mass which was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Dominic Amegashiti, the Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. Charles Awotwe from the U.S.A, the Chief Shepherd confirmed 72 Catholics and challenged the parents and Godparents of the confirmandi to support them to walk in truth and in faith.

The Archbishop urged Parents as primary evangelizers to imbue discipline, truthfulness and faith in their children and help them to learn and live the teachings of the Church.
