By Damian Avevor
The National Union of Ghana Catholic Diocesan Priests’ Associations (NUGDPA) will hold its 2015 Biennial Congress at the Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School at Takoradi from January 5 to 9.
The Congress to be attended by over 600 Diocesan Priests including Arch/Bishops is on the theme Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of the New Evangelization: The role of the Diocesan Priest.
The participants will put heads together at the occasion so as to chart a new path of evangelization to meet the demands that today’s society makes on families.
According to Very Rv. Fr. Marciano Ziem Kogh, Executive Secretary for the Department of Pastoral Ministry at the National Catholic Secretariat, Pastoral ministry to the family will be the main focus of this Congress and the conclusions of the reflections of Congress fathers will certainly enhance the family catechesis for the benefit of all Catholic families in Ghana.
He said lack of companionship has become a major challenge to families whose members are professionals who spend most of their time at work.
He said some of the issues to be tackled will include how can this and other pastoral challenges of such families be addressed? How about the social media? Can that be a good tool for the pastoral ministry of the family?
The family, he noted is the domestic Church, for it is the first place where people learn the meaning of life.
Biennial Congresses for NUGDPA is an event that many a Priests and Arch/Bishops long for as home-coming, ongoing formation, and occasions to reflect on and address issues that are social and national in character.
They are moments for the priests to re-energize themselves so as to serve God’s people effectively and efficiently.
NUGDPA is the umbrella organisation of Diocesan Priests in Ghana aimed at promoting brotherly love, understanding and solidarity among Priest and Bishops.
It also promotes vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life and help Priests in their spiritual and material needs. Besides, it fosters a closer ecumenical relationship with other Religious Bodies and promotes catechesis, Biblical Apostolate and evangelisation to enhance the ministerial Priesthood.
