‘Make Formation of children priority’
Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene, Bishop of Goaso has called on Churches to put emphasis on the formation of children by giving them roles to play in the Church.

He said “if we do not empower children by preparing them well and giving them opportunities to use their gifts and talents for the service of God and the Church as Lectors, Choristers, Ushers, Altar Servers and other paraliturgical activities, we would end up complaining that they were irresponsible children”.

Bishop Atuahene made the call recently in a homily during a Mass when he elevated the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at Kwapong, an Outstation of the Michael’s Parish at Kukuom in the Goaso Diocese to a Quasi Parish.
Rev. Fr. Joaking Bonsu was installed as its first Parish Priest.
The new Parish encompasses Kwapong, Agyarekrom, Amankwakrom, Sikafrebogya and Asibrem.

He commended the children who took the readings at the Mass and urged their teachers to continue grooming them for the benefit of the Church and the society.

Bishop Atuahene noted that the elevation was to enhance evangelization of the area
reminding the people of their responsibility to make the Church grow so that in the near future, it would be split again for the Church to be brought to the door steps of each and every one.

“As an independent Church, you are expected to be disciplined, become a self-reliant Church, become a missionary Church and show good example to your children and others to emulate”, he said.

As part of the celebration, Bishop Atuahene confirmed 46 Catholics with a call on them to go out to witness Christ to the world.
The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Frs. Daniel Owusu, the Parish Priest of the St. Matthew’s Parish at Kukuom, Benjamin Danso, Assistant Priest at Mim, Elisha Manu, Assistant to the Cathedral Administrator, Simon Duku a Priest of  Wiawso Diocese and Joaking Bonsu the newly installed Parish Priest.

The Bishop read the Decree for the creation of the Quasi Parish and presented the Decree to Fr. Bonsu and with the assistance of the Nananom and the DCE, Bishop atuahene installed Fr. Bonsu as the first Parish Priest amidst applause by the Faithful.
Rev. Fr. Bonsu expressed his gratitude to the Bishop for the great honour done him and the people of Kwapong as well as Nananom and all present for their support. He pledged to work hard to uplift the image of the Parish, urging the Parishioners to cooperate and collaborate with him.
