EASTER A PERIOD OF LOVE
This year’s Easter should be of special significance to Ghanaians since the Country recently marked 58 years of Nationhood. The occasion was celebrated in grand style in Accra and all the Regions.

President John Mahama’s main message to the nation on the occasion was that, “Our diversity should be harnessed and forged into a potent weapon for the realization of our national interests. They should not provide grounds for tearing ourselves asunder”.

In this vain, The Catholic Standard advises all Ghanaians to reflect soberly on issues that hinder progress and resolve to make Ghana a better place for all.
We should allow Christ’s teaching of love to permeate our hearts and do away with acts which retard the progress of the nation.

“As stated recently by the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, all Christians and Muslims should hold on to the value of our Religious diversity and co-existence in the context of oneness as a people with a common destiny, that has characterized our national lives” .

Easter is an occasion celebrated in the Church for more than 2000 years. It is also regarded as the “Feast of Feasts” culminating in the Mass of the resurrection of the Lord
The Catholic Standard calls on all Ghanaians to be agents of love, peace and mercy. We should do away with hatred, bitterness and bickering.

We should use this joyous occasion to resolve all conflicts, be they religious, political, chieftaincy or land and pray for peace in other parts of the world where there are wars, leading to the death of innocent people.
Having repented during the Lenten season, we should now rise with Christ by doing away with all unwholesome acts including bitterness and corruption.

Easter should help us promote reconciliation in our families, work, places, Churches and in the Country as a whole.
Recently, to calm down nerves when the issue of religious practices in mission schools surfaced, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference advocated for dialogue as a way of resolving any issue, saying that dialogue is the key for in reasoning with others through dialogue, we obtain just and peace.

As we celebrate Easter, we pray that the risen Christ would enlighten us to give our widow’s mite to the poor and allow Jesus’ teaching of love to permeate our hearts to build a better society.

We wish our esteemed readers a grace-filled Happy Easter.
