Don’t blame disasters on witches
Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, SVD, Bishop of Yendi Diocese, says that the flood and fire disasters in Accra recently was a clear case of indiscipline and has no connection with witches. Do not blame God or the witches for the incident, he added, calling for attitudinal change to put an end to building houses and siting structures on waterways as well as disposing of refuse into drains.
Bishop Boi-Nai made these comments in a homily during Mass to launch the Diocesan version of the World Youth Day (WYD) celebration at the Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral at Yendi recently.
The Bishop’s homily which was on the theme: “Faith in the Power of God in Our Lives” enjoined Christians to do good, be discipline and have a change of attitude, stressing on the need to accept the consequences of the faith as Job did. He advised the faithful to be committed Christians, have faith, live it and share it with others, reminding them of the need to pray constantly, read and reflect on the Word of God and put it into action in their daily lives. He cautioned them to desist from questioning the power of God, saying that it was a sign of disbelief in Him.
Bishop Boi-Nai also bemoaned the increasing rate of teenage pregnancies with its attendant abortions, calling on Christians to pray for the youth so they might grow in the fear and love of God.
Rev. Fr. Michael Cobb, the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, who gave a brief background to the WYD celebration, appealed for financial support to enable the Diocese sponsor at least 100 youth to participate in the third Ghana version of the celebration which would be held at Cape Coast from August 24 to 30, 2015 on the theme: Blessed are the Pure in Heart, for they shall see God (Mt. 5:8).
He said the celebration among others would create a platform for spiritual growth, socialization, tolerance and the general development of the youth.
