The Christ the King International School at Cantonments in Accra, recently launched the 60th Anniversary of its establishment, attended by about 100 alumni and many dignitaries including the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III.
The theme of the Anniversary which will be climaxed in July next year, is 60 years of Holistic Quality Catholic Education towards the Development of Ghana. Activities to mark the year-long celebration include Health Walk and Family Day, Debate, Theatre and Choral Night, Nostalgia Night and Home Coming Dinner, Unveiling of Bust and Founders Day, Outreach, Exhibiton and Durbar to be clixed with a thanksgiving Mass.
The ceremony was chaired by Mrs. Yvette Aduonvo Atekpe, Regional Managing Director of Internet Solutions Ghana, and the keynote address given by Mr. Kingsley Kwame Awuah-Darko, Managing Director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST), both alumni of the School.
Mr. Awuah-Darko said the ceremony was a home-coming and a rare opportunity for the past students of the School to be re-united and to share their experiences, successes and challenges during their formative years at the school and how it had impacted on their lives today.
He noted that the sound quality education provided by the School had produced many intellectuals and high profile personalities who were contributing immensely to the development of the nation. He commended the founders and past teachers for sowing a seed 60 years ago and watering it to grow into a mighty tree which had borne many good fruits.
Mr. Awuah- Darko thanked the Headmistress of the School, Rev. Sr. Dr. Jessy Quist and her staff for continuing the good works of their predecessors, urging them to imbue in the children discipline and good moral values which would help them reach higher pedestals.
He called on the alumni to pool together their resources and support the growth of their Alma Marta. As part of the ceremony, there we cultural displays by the School’s cultural troupe and Interpretative dance by the CTK Choreography group.
The Chairperson bemoaned the situation where past students only supported their Secondary Schools, neglecting the basic ones, and called on the alumni to extend the necessary help to their mother schools, reminding them that they had reached their present status because of the formation they received at CTK.
She expressed delight that the School continued to maintain its position as one of the best in the country and commended the Headmistress and teachers for their commitment and hard work.
Mrs. Atekpe urged the Management of the School to ensure that the children had access to internet facilities to enhance their studies and to propel the school forward, advising the pupils to learn hard and make good use of the internet. The CTK Choir which won a Choral Competition recently, spiced the ceremony with medley of songs.
Sr. Jessy Quist noted that the school in the past years chalked many successes and expressed gratitude to the Founder of the School, Rev. Fr. Leslie Hatfield, SVD, as well as Sr. Francetta Kunkel, the first Headmistress for their vision. She called on the Alumni to patronize the year-long activities and contribute their quota to the growth and development of the school.
Mr. Kobina Addision, Chief Executive Officer of Quality Insurance Company, an alumnus, launched the Anniversary. There was fund-raising to support the construction of ultra-modern washrooms and changing rooms for the pupils.
Also present were the Deputy Minister for Defence, Mr. Alex Segbefia, an alumnus and the 2012 Flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC), Mr. Mahama Ayariga.
