Bishops meet Catholic MPs

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has last Wednesday held a meeting with the Catholic Parliamentarians caucus to deliberate on pertinent issues confronting the church and the nation as a whole.

The MPs used the gathering to rededicate and affirm their faith in the Catholic Church.

With lighted candles in hand, the Parliamentarians pledged their commitment to be shepherds of their constituents and stand by them in their times of sorrows, need and happiness.

Celebrating a Mass to commemorate the event, Most Rev Anthony Adanuty, Bishop of Keta =Akatsi Diocese urged the Parliamentarians and the Catholic Staff of Parliament to look upon the lord with their burdens because he is the only one who can give them rest.

He used the occasion to discredit the rumour that the Catholic Church has agreed to same sex marriage.

“No assembly of Catholic Bishops have consented to gay marriage, all those information are false” he noted.

Present the event include the Most Rev. Charles Palmer Buckle (Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra), Most Rev. Gabriel Kumodzi (Apostolic Vicar of Donkorkrom), Most Rev. Paul Bemile (Bishop of Wa), Very Rev. Father Nicholas Afriyie (Secretary General of National Catholic Secretariat), Rev. Father Emmanuel Abbeyquaye (Assistant Secretary General of National Catholic Secretariat) and Rev. Father Samuel Ebuley Afful ( a Formator at St. Paul’s Seminary Sowutuom).

MPs who were present include, Cletus Avoka MP for Zebilla, Joseph Osei Owusu MP for Bekwai, Elizabeth Agyeman MP for Oforikrom, Isaac Osei MP for Subin, Boniface Gambila Adabila MP for Nabdam.

The rest were Nana Ato Arthur, MP for Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abrem) and Matthew Nyindam, MP for Kpandai.
