Bishop Mante condemns religious violence
Most Rev. Gabriel A.A Mante, Bishop of Jasikan, has condemned religious violence in Africa and other parts of the world and called for a stop to “this barbaric act”. He bemoaned the gruesome killing of Christians by Muslim extremists in Nigeria, Somalia and other parts of Africa as well as in Iraqi.
The Bishop made the call in a homily in a Mass to climax the Jasikan Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Lake at Tokuroano. The annual event brought together hundreds of faithful from all Parishes and Outstations in the Diocese as well as pilgrims from Togo.
Bishop Mante called for a stop to all acts and tendencies that might bring ethnic, religious and political conflicts, appealing to all to live in peace and harmony with one another. He urged parents to bring up their children in the fear of God and instill discipline in them to create a better and peaceful society for all. He called on the faithful to pray for peace and unity in the world, especially in Africa “so that we can live together as one people of God and proclaim a faith freely”.
Activities to mark the four-day pilgrimage included talks, candle light procession, Stations of the Cross, Mass, rosary devotion and healing service. There were talks on The Role of the Family in Evangelization which stressed that the family was the first point of evangelization, hence the need for parents to evangelize their children from the home.
Rev. Msgr. Vincent Antie, Director of Formation and Counselling Centre, Nsuta, who gave a talk on Preparation and Commitment in Marriage, stressed on the need to prepare physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, sexually, financially and spiritually before entering into marriage.
On her part, Mrs. Ruby Adom who gave a talk on Empowering the Girl Child to Pursue Higher Education advised parents to invest in the education of their children, especially the girls to the highest level in their education, since they were key players in the development of the nation.
